A 50-year-old man, Alhaji Abdul Aziz, has been remanded in custody following allegations that he defiled a 14-year-old girl.
The suspect, a well-known resident of the community and a polygamist with three wives, is currently being held as police continue their investigations.
New details have emerged suggesting that the suspect also allegedly forced the minor to terminate a pregnancy resulting from the abuse.
The victim is currently hospitalised.
While health officials confirm she is responding well to medical treatment, efforts are being made to address the long-term impact of the assault. Suleman Zakaria, a media professional and social justice advocate, noted that arrangements for psychological counselling are already underway—a vital step in helping her process the trauma and regain a sense of safety.
The incident has left the local community in shock, particularly given the suspect’s age and social standing.
For many residents, the case serves as a harrowing reminder that danger is not always a distant threat; it can exist within the most familiar spaces.
They have demanded justice for the victim and requested authorities to take stringent action against the suspect.
