According to a police statement, the incident occurred on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at approximately 17:20 hours, when officers at the Assorkor barrier near Shama stopped a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GE 8965-12, which was loaded with suspected narcotic substances.

Upon seeing the police, the occupants fled the scene. Later, suspect Moses Kwaku Tawiah appeared at the scene, claiming the impounded truck belonged to his brother, and requested its release.

He was subsequently arrested and, during questioning, revealed information about a second truck, a Hyundai gold truck with registration number GS 3368-17, loaded with similar goods, parked at Nkroful, Block Factory near Sekondi.

Police accompanied the suspect to the location and found the truck as described. Investigations revealed that each bale contained approximately 80 slabs of the compressed substance.

On February 23, 2026, at 02:00 hours, suspects Kwame Kontor and Kwabena Forson attempted to bribe police officers with GH 69,000.00 to secure the release of the trucks.

The money was seized, and the suspects were arrested. Both trucks, containing the suspected narcotics, have been impounded, and the GH 69,000.00 is being held for evidence.

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with the investigation. The Western Regional Police Command reaffirms its commitment to combating drug trafficking and related offenses.
