The Ahafo Regional Police Command has apprehended three individuals following a high-stakes interception on the Ayomsu-Goaso road, resulting in the discovery of illicit firearms and tactical equipment.
The operation commenced late Sunday night, February 22, when a police task force spotted two men, Johnson Mawutor (26) and Kelvin Ofori (22), travelling on an unregistered motorbike.
Upon noticing the police, the suspects allegedly extinguished their headlights and attempted a U-turn to flee, prompting a pursuit that culminated in their arrest.

A search of the duo revealed a concealed AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition. Subsequent to the initial arrest, police conducted a targeted search of Mawutor’s residence in Abro Danho, a suburb of Goaso.
The raid yielded a substantial haul of additional weaponry and equipment, including two pistols (a Beretta Bruni MOD.92 and an NM157-1941), 80 additional rounds of ammunition (9mm and AK-47), four Motorola handsets, a Contiso F35 drone, a machete, and a bayonet knife.

Further investigations revealed a coordinated effort to transport the assault rifle from the Bono East Region, with police alleging that Mawutor dispatched his 20-year-old cousin, Mawuli Dogba, to Techiman earlier that afternoon to collect a “parcel” from a fourth accomplice, Mohammed-Adinan Ussif.
Dogba allegedly transported the weapon back to Goaso via a commercial minibus, delivering it to Mawutor and Ofori just hours before they were intercepted by the patrol team.
While Mawutor, Ofori, and Dogba are scheduled to appear in court to be remanded into custody, the primary source of the weapons, Mohammed-Adinan Ussif, remains at large.
The regional command reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and is urging anyone with information regarding Ussif’s whereabouts or other criminal activities in the region to contact the police immediately.
