Energy Minister John Jinapor has guaranteed consumers that defective meters will be replaced and overcharged amounts will be refunded.
He has given the Electricity Company of Ghana seven days to report on the rapid depletion of prepaid credits.
This announcement was made during the commissioning of MBH Power Ghana’s new energy meter manufacturing unit in Tema.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Richmond Rockson, announced that Minister John Abdulai Jinapor has directed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and submit a comprehensive report within a seven-day timeframe.
The directive follows escalating public concerns from households and businesses nationwide regarding alleged abnormal depletion of credit balances on their prepaid meters.
“The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has taken notice of these complaints and has directed ECG to investigate and provide a report to him within 7 days for further action,” the post read.
The investigation will identify the causes of grievances, guiding remedial actions to enhance accountability in the power sector and protect consumer interests.
