A group of armed individuals reportedly hijacked fishing vessels at Senya Breku in the Central Region, making off with outboard motors and generators.
The fishermen, who had embarked on their fishing expedition early Thursday morning, were allegedly attacked by the assailants, who approached them in a black boat as they returned to shore, leaving the fishermen helpless.
Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, confirmed the incident to the press, stating that seven canoes were targeted by the attackers.
She further noted that security agencies have been dispatched to the area to apprehend the perpetrators.
“There was an armed attack at sea. Our fishermen usually go out at night and return early in the morning. Those who went toward the Nyanyano side were reportedly attacked.
“They were robbed of their outboard motors and generator sets by a black boat. I cannot disclose the nationality of the attackers. Investigations are ongoing,” she said.
“The military, the IGP has also dispatched a military marine police unit to help. So the navy is helping, and the marine police are also helping us,” she added.
