The Ghana Armed Forces has initiated a high-priority search and rescue operation subsequent to an attack on fishing vessels off the Central Region’s coast.
The operation commenced at dawn on Thursday, led by the Ghana Navy with Ghana Air Force aerial support.
The incident reportedly took place approximately 35 nautical miles off Senya Bereku’s coast.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Public Relations at General Headquarters, the military confirmed the deployment as a direct response to the unspecified attack on vessels operating in the area.
Although the exact nature of the attack and the number of individuals involved remain undisclosed, the Ghana Armed Forces indicated that the mission is currently ongoing.
“The Ghana Armed Forces appeals to all to remain calm,” stated Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations. “Further details will be communicated as they become available.”
This development comes against the backdrop of heightened efforts by maritime authorities to ensure Ghana’s territorial waters’ safety.
