The Ministry of Health has announced payment modalities for unpaid arrears for nurses and midwives posted during the 2024/2025 cycle will be paid starting this April.
The decision follows a successful negotiation between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance to resolve the financial backlog that has affected personnel across the country.
To ensure a “timely and responsible” settlement, the government has structured the disbursements into four monthly instalments.
According to the official schedule, the payments will be distributed as follows in April: 2 months of arrears; May: 3 months of arrears; June: 3 months of arrears; July: 3 months of arrears.
The Ministry of Health commended the affected healthcare workers for their patience and “continued service to the nation” despite the significant delays.
It noted that the Ministry of Finance had treated the matter with the necessary urgency to ensure the welfare of the frontline staff.
The Ministry reiterated that this phased approach is part of a broader commitment to maintaining the motivation of the health workforce while managing national obligations effectively.
