Afigya Kwabre South MP, Hon. Damata Ama Appianimaa Salam, has expressed her hopes for President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation Address, scheduled for tomorrow.
In an interview with Rainbow Radio, Hon. Damata stated that Ghanaians, particularly parents, students, and farmers, are struggling due to the cocoa price cut by the NDC government, which has had a ripple effect on the country.
“The people of Ghana need relief, and we expect the President to announce measures to reverse the cocoa price cut to the original 3,600 cedis,” she said. She described the price cut as unprecedented, noting that previous governments had prioritized farmers’ welfare.
Hon. Damata also highlighted the burden of high electricity tariffs on Ghanaians, calling on the President to address this issue and outline plans for affordable electricity.
“If the President fails to address these two critical issues tomorrow, it will be a surprise, and it would mean the government doesn’t care about its people,” she emphasized.
She added that the government and Cocobod should absorb the costs of the cocoa sector’s debt, rather than passing it on to farmers, saying, “Farming is not easy, and the government should not make farmers suffer.”
