The Ghana Police Service has apprehended seven individuals suspected of circulating fraudulent electronic traffic violation notices.
The suspects include Martha Kawshi, Prosper Otumfou, Peter Ofori Makati, Alfred Kofi, Robert Akpleke, and Christian Akpleke.
According to ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, the police received reports a week ago of a fake electronic notice purportedly from the Ghana Police Service, informing recipients of alleged traffic offences and requesting payment of fines via a provided link.
The police intelligence and cyber teams swiftly initiated an investigation and issued a public notice to caution the public about the scam. Investigations conducted by the police revealed that the suspected scammers were utilising multiple mobile money numbers to collect funds from victims before consolidating the proceeds.
Acting on intelligence, a police team arrested suspect Martha Kawshi, a mobile money vendor, in Ada on February 23, 2026.
The six other suspects are currently in custody, and the police are continuing their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
