President Mahama announces GHS 65 billion road expansion under “Big Push” initiative

In the State of the Nation Address delivered on Friday, February 27, 2026, President Mahama announced the commencement of 50 road projects under the Big Push initiative, spanning a total distance of 1,144 km with an estimated cost of GHS 50 billion.

Additionally, he noted that the government is working to complete 23 projects, covering 573 km, which were initially awarded by the previous administration but suffered from underfunding, with a total estimated cost of GHS 15 billion.

Nationwide, across all 16 regions, 73 projects are currently underway, with substantial progress anticipated by the end of the year.

9. Dodowa-Afienya-Dawhenya Road

10. Gbintiri-Nakpanduri Road

11. Tamale Outer Ring Road

12. Wenchi-Sawla Road

13. Sawla-Wa Road

14. Bole-Chache and Bole Town Roads

15. Navrongo-Tumu Road

16. Tumu-Han-Lawra Road

17. Atimpoku-Ho Road

18. Ho-Denu Road

19. Dualisation of Accra-Aflao Road Phase I

20. Dualisation of Cape Coast-Takoradi Road

Under Local Government and Decentralisation, President Mahama and his administration have released

GHS 6.3 billion to the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

To strictly follow the resetting agenda and secure sufficient funding, the Ministry of Finance has allocated GHS 6.3 billion to the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

This amount covers four quarters of the 2025 fiscal year and is allocated to all 261 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to execute their activities outlined in the Medium-Term Development Plans and Annual Action Plans (AAPs).

Out of the amount released, a total of GHS 4.3 billion has been disbursed to all MMDAs. The 4th Quarter instalment is being processed for disbursement”, stated.
