Governance Expert rates Mahama’s Overall Performance: 82%; Labels Galamsey Fight “Abysmal”
Governance expert Dr Richard Fiadomor has faulted President John Dramani Mahama’s handling of the fight against illegal mining, describing it as abysmal.
Despite commending the President’s leadership across various sectors over the past year, Dr Fiadomor rated his performance in combating galamsey poorly.
He assigned an overall rating of 82% to the president’s performance, suggesting that while the president’s efforts in other areas are commendable, intensifying the fight against galamsey is crucial.
Dr Fiadomor emphasised that President Mahama’s governance has been effective and beneficial to Ghanaians overall.
However, he stressed that addressing the issue of illegal mining requires immediate attention to safeguard water bodies and natural resources.
This critique follows President Mahama’s State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2026, which focused on security, health, education, corruption, unity, and the economy.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, Dr Fiadomor shared his assessment of the President’s first year in office.
”We expected the President to tell us what he has achieved in his first year, and he delivered on that,” Dr Fiadomor stated. “The majority of the issues he spoke about were facts, and he excelled in providing details of the realities. I think that he exercised a little wisdom and spoke about things that sounded right. In rating his performance for the first year in office, it has been great. I will rate him 82 per cent because the figures speak for themselves. The unemployment rate has reduced, and inflation has also reduced. On corruption, we have not heard of any scandals yet, so clearly, the President and his government have performed. On the whole, I gave him 82 per cent because he has performed well. I am not too impressed with what we are seeing in the fight against galamsey. If not for that, I would have given him 92 or 93 per cent.”
Dr Fiadomor further advised the government to maintain stability and sustain the gains achieved as a nation to ensure the country does not return to the difficulties suffered in the past.
