A tragic incident occurred in the Western Region’s Amenfi West Municipality at Wassa Dunkwa, resulting in the deaths of a 42-year-old woman and her three sons.
The family had gone to collect firewood near an illegal mining site on Saturday afternoon, a location they frequently visited to gather dried cocoa trees.
After collecting firewood and placing it by the roadside, the children entered a water-filled pit left behind by illegal miners, where they began to drown.
In a desperate attempt to rescue her children, the mother rushed into the pit but was unable to save them, ultimately losing her own life.
The bodies were recovered and taken to the Catholic Hospital morgue in Asankragwa.
The Asankrangwa police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
