Ayawaso East by-election: Voting over with low voter turnout

The Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election has officially concluded, with voting taking place from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Electoral officials are presently engaged in sorting and counting ballots at polling stations throughout the constituency.

This by-election was necessitated by the passing of the sitting Member of Parliament, Naser Toure.

The Electoral Commission is anticipated to declare the election results later today.

Reports indicate a low voter turnout.

A substantial police presence was deployed to ensure law and order, and supporters closely observed the counting process.

The police have also confirmed that no incidents of violence were recorded.

A total of five candidates are vying for the seat:

Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed – National Democratic Congress (NDC)
Baba Ali Yusif – New Patriotic Party (NPP)
Umar Sanda Mohammed – Independent candidate
David Kanor – Independent candidate
Ibrahim Iddrisu – Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG)
