Interior Ministry Clears 2025 Rent Arrears; Shifts to Monthly Mechanised Payments

The Ministry of the Interior has announced the release of funds to settle all outstanding rent allowance arrears for the 2025 fiscal year.

The disbursement targets eligible personnel within the Ghana Prisons Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ghana Immigration Service.

In a statement issued by the Public Affairs and Communications Unit, the ministry commended officers for their patience and professional conduct while the payments were being processed.

According to the ministry, to prevent future delays, there would be a structural change to how these benefits are handled.

The rent allowance system has been fully integrated into the national payroll.

Starting March 2026, personnel will no longer receive rent allowances as lump-sum arrears while

Payments will now be processed and disbursed automatically alongside monthly salaries.

“The ministry remains committed to the welfare of all personnel and will continue to collaborate with the Ministry of Finance to ensure timely fulfilment of all entitlements,” the statement concluded.

The Ministry of the Interior wishes to inform the public, particularly personnel of the Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Ghana Immigration Service, that Government has released funds for the payment of the outstanding rent allowance for the year 2025.

This payment covers the arrears owed to eligible personnel across these services. The Ministry appreciates the patience and understanding demonstrated by the affected officers during this period.

Furthermore, the Ministry wishes to announce that the payment process for rent allowance has been mechanised going forward. Effective from March 2026, rent allowance payments will be processed and disbursed together with monthly salaries.

The Ministry remains committed to the welfare of all personnel under its oversight and will continue to collaborate with the Ministry of Finance and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the timely fulfilment of all entitlements.
