A fatal head-on collision between an ambulance and a Ford Transit bus has resulted in the deaths of seventeen individuals at Potrikrom in the Ahafo Ano South-East District of the Ashanti Region.
According to reports, the Ford Transit, registered as GT 6576-19, was en route from Kumasi to Bechem when it collided with the ambulance, registered as GV 527-23, which was travelling in the opposite direction.
The severe impact, attributed to excessive speed, left both vehicles severely damaged. It is believed that most passengers on the Ford Transit died instantly due to the force of the collision.
Further details indicate that only one passenger in the Ford Transit survived the incident.
Officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) at Mankranso transported the bodies to the mortuaries at Mankranso and Adugyama using a pickup vehicle.
Reporting the accident on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, Nana Kwame said the one who survived is admitted to the hospital.
Efforts are also underway to identify families of those who died.
