The Member of Parliament for Kwahu Afram Plains North, Hon. Kpeli Worlase, has hit back at the minority caucus in Parliament following their claims that President John Dramani Mahama failed to provide a sufficient update on the Agenda 111 hospital projects.
According to the MP, members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) within the caucus lack the moral authority to criticise the initiative.
He argued that while in power, the previous administration depleted the resources intended for these projects before exiting office.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, Hon. Worlase noted that there was initially no opposition to the hospital initiative.
The general expectation was that the previous government would complete the facilities, given the significant financial resources available to them.
He emphasised that despite having access to international loans, donor support, and dedicated funding, the NPP government failed to execute the project as promised.
Hon. Worlase provided further context on the current state of the projects and the findings of recent audits: “There was no criticism against the government when the Agenda 111 hospital project started because these hospitals will certainly cater to the health needs of those in these districts. Everybody was in anticipation at the time they started the project, following the loans they took, the donor support, and the funding that came into the country.
So, it is surprising that the very people who depleted the resources meant for Agenda 111 and prevented the hospitals from being completed are the ones who sit back and push a caretaker. Agenda 111 was birthed by the NPP with the promise of finishing in a year before the election, but we are at a period where the projects were not completed. A lot of the hospitals are just on paper. The money is gone, but no hospital was constructed. I am privy to some of the information because I am part of an agency that was tasked to audit the Agenda 111 project.”
The MP confirmed that the auditing process is now complete. He stated that the current government has demonstrated a clear commitment to finishing the projects that the NPP failed to deliver.
In his closing remarks to host Kwabena Agyapong, Hon. Worlase defended President Mahama’s record: “President John Dramani Mahama is not relenting on completing the projects. He is committed to completing projects that will benefit the state. Some of the comments by the minority MPs are shameful because some of them were ministers with specific projects in their hands for which monies were paid; they never finished the projects, and they never saw to the smooth running of the projects. Then you come and stand in the faces of the people and demand these projects you failed to complete should be completed. They left a lot of holes.”
