A robbery attempt at the residence of a Court of Appeal judge was foiled on Tuesday when a police bodyguard shot and injured two armed intruders.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on March 3, 2026, in a tranquil residential neighbourhood in Kumasi.
According to a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the suspects, identified as 23-year-old Patrick Alor and 21-year-old Akwasi Gyamfi, gained access to the premises by scaling the perimeter fence.

Once inside the compound, the duo, allegedly armed with cutlasses and scissors, attempted to break into the judge’s private vehicle. However, their actions were detected by the police officer stationed at the house.
The situation escalated rapidly when the officer moved to apprehend the suspects, who resisted and attempted to disarm him.
In response, the officer discharged his firearm in self-defence, hitting both men in the legs.
“The bodyguard acted in accordance with police operational procedures,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Ashanti Region, in a statement.
“His swift action prevented a potentially serious or even fatal incident.”
Following the shooting, the injured suspects were taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where they are receiving treatment under heavy police guard.

The Regional Police Command has commended the officer’s bravery and vigilance, emphasising the protection of the judiciary as a top priority.
Residents in the area have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
The suspects are expected to face charges related to attempted robbery and assault on a police officer once they are medically cleared for discharge.
