The High Court in Wa has sentenced Shariff Abdulai, popularly known as ‘Cristos’, to life imprisonment with hard labour following his conviction for the murder of 23 people.
The sentencing took place on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, after Abdulai pleaded guilty to all charges.
The court heard an account of his crimes, which spanned multiple locations: 16 victims in Wa, five in Bole, and one each in Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi. Among the named victims was Issah Yahaya.
Abdulai was apprehended on October 6, 2025, following a targeted intelligence-led operation by the Ghana Police Service.
After being committed by the District Magistrate Court, the accused appeared before His Lordship Justice Osei-Wusu Antwi.
Represented by counsel, Abdulai entered a plea of guilty.
He has been ordered to serve his life sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.
In a statement following the verdict, DCOP Mr Francis Yiribaare, the Regional Police Commander for the Upper West Region, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the rule of law.
“The Police Service will not relent in its efforts to ensure a safe and secure atmosphere for all law-abiding citizens,” the statement read.
The conviction brings a sense of closure to a case that has gripped the region since the suspect’s arrest last year.
