Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has revealed that Ghana has recorded 1,038 confirmed cases of Mpox as of March 3, 2026.
Out of the cases, eight persons have died.
Delivering an update in Parliament on Monday, March 9, 2026, the health minister authorities have put in place measures aimed at containing the spread and strengthening the public health response.
He explained that through the Ghana Health Service and with partner support, it has activated a coordinated multisectoral response to interrupt transmission.
“Since the outbreak began in May 2025, 880 cases had been confirmed by November 25, 2025. As of March 3, 2026, Ghana has recorded 1,038 confirmed cases and eight deaths, largely among persons with underlying health conditions,” the minister said.
He informed the House that the outbreak has spread across nearly half of the country, with 124 districts, representing 47.5% of all districts, being affected.
He, however, noted that there is currently only one case on admission, and no critical cases have been reported.
He also revealed that Ghana has received 33,600 Mpox vaccines from the Africa CDC and WHO.
A total of 31,231 people have been vaccinated across 12 districts in the Ashanti, Greater Accra, and Western regions, achieving coverage exceeding 95% of the target population, he said.
He said the government is covering medical bills for Mpox patients to prevent financial burdens, ensuring an accessible public health response.
