Hon Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe Constituency, has slammed the government for failing to deliver on its youth employment promises.
Speaking at the Empower Vault Summit 2026, Shaib expressed disappointment over the “one job, three shifts” initiative, saying it has not been implemented as promised.
Shaib cited the recent security services recruitment, where 99.9% of applicants were disqualified, and only 5,000 out of 857,000 applicants were selected. He questioned the fairness of the process, emphasising that it frustrates young people and undermines their sense of purpose.
“We were promised one job, three shifts, but what we’re seeing is one one one, not one three three,” Shaib said, urging the government to take urgent action to address youth unemployment. He emphasised that the current situation is unacceptable and requires immediate attention.
The MP called for a comprehensive approach to empower Ghana’s youth, leveraging IT and other initiatives to create opportunities and drive growth. He stressed that investing in the youth is crucial for the country’s development and future prosperity.
Shaib’s criticism comes amid growing concerns about Ghana’s youth unemployment crisis. With many young people struggling to find decent jobs, the government’s promises of employment opportunities have been met with scepticism.
The Empower Vault Summit 2026, organised by the Ghana Communication Technology University in collaboration with Horses and Stables, brought together stakeholders to discuss ways to fuel purpose and shape leaders. Shaib’s remarks underscored the need for concrete action to address the challenges facing Ghana’s youth.
