Effia MP Renews Call for Support for Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company to Drive LPG Adoption

March 12, 2026

Member of Parliament for Effia, Hon. Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, has reiterated the need for government to adequately support the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCMC) to increase the country’s LPG usage.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Boamah-Nyarko noted that despite high LPG usage in urban areas, the national adoption rate remains low, leading to increased reliance on fossil fuels like charcoal, which has detrimental environmental impacts.

The MP called for intentional government policy and budgetary allocation to support GCMC, citing the company’s financial struggles due to inadequate funding.

“Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company has not been doing well in terms of their books because the government has not released adequate funding to support their corporate objectives and goals,” he stated.

Mr Boamah-Nyarko urged the Ministries of Finance and Energy to provide necessary support, linking it to Ghana’s green transition goals and climate change mitigation efforts.

He also highlighted the need to improve LPG access in rural communities, suggesting possible cylinder subsidies to encourage adoption.

“How do we ensure that we give them access to cylinders? Will the government even subsidise the cylinders for them so that a lot more people will be attracted to using them in our homes?” he asked. He stressed that increasing LPG usage is crucial for Ghana’s climate conditions and reducing fossil fuel dependence, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change.

The MP’s call comes as Ghana’s energy sector undergoes transformation, with initiatives aimed at promoting clean energy and reducing carbon emissions.

The government has been promoting LPG adoption as a cleaner alternative to traditional fuels, but challenges persist in expanding access, particularly in rural areas.

Hon. Boamah-Nyarko called for collaborative efforts from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Energy to support the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCMC).

He stressed the need to enhance GCMC’s performance to increase LPG usage in Ghana and contribute to climate change mitigation.

The MP specifically requested the minister of energy, who was present, to support GCMC, stating that the company is working diligently towards its goals. Boamah-Nyarko’s statement has been referred to the Energy Committee for consideration.
