A tragic shooting has occurred at Hiawu Besease in the Atwima Nwabiagya South District of the Ashanti Region, leaving two young girls with severe injuries.
The victims have been identified as 19-year-old Serwaa Alice and 13-year-old Maa Adwoa.
Local residents report that the incident took place during a funeral procession for the mother of the Chief of Besease, Nana Aboagye Asare III.
As the Chief was on his way to the burial site, his bodyguard allegedly discharged a firearm.
The resulting gunfire struck a pregnant woman in the abdomen and hit the younger victim in the eye.
Abigail, the sister of the pregnant victim, described the scene as devastating, recounting how the bodyguard’s gunfire suddenly hit her sister and the other young girl.
The Committee Chairman for the area, Mr. Emmanuel Asante, confirmed that both victims were immediately rushed for medical attention.
The pregnant woman is currently being treated at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) emergency unit, while the second victim is receiving care at the Nkawie Government Hospital.
The shooting has sparked widespread outrage and concern throughout the community.
Residents are now demanding a formal investigation into the circumstances that led to the discharge of the weapon.
While the current medical condition of the two victims remains uncertain, the community continues to rally behind the families in hopes of a swift recovery.
