The Member of Parliament for the Ejisu constituency, Kwabena Boateng, has labelled the forced closure of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) office in Ejisu as an act of lawlessness.
Appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM on March 17, 2026, the lawmaker condemned the incident as a direct assault on public order and an unacceptable disruption of essential healthcare services for the region.
The unrest began when aggrieved supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stormed and locked the district office.
Their actions were sparked by the appointment of Alex Nimako, the former PRO for the NHIA at Effiduase, as the new manager for the Ejisu-Juaben office.
The group alleged that the party has consistently sidelined loyalists and hard-working individuals who contributed to the 2024 election efforts in favour of external appointments.
Despite these grievances, Mr Boateng maintained that there is no justification for such disruptive behaviour.
He emphasised that internal party frustrations should never interfere with the administration of public institutions or the rights of citizens to access healthcare.
“Ghana is governed by laws, and we cannot allow such acts to continue and undermine the government. If you have concerns, there are ways to address them, but you don’t just get up and use unlawful means in addressing your concerns. You cannot allow your emotions to lead you into engaging in such acts. They could have engaged their party leaders on this matter.
By their claims, are they also encouraging other Ejisu citizens working in public service in other areas to be booted out? Also, it is ridiculous for them to even claim that they prefer an NDC member to hold that position. It is most unfortunate and a recipe for disaster. We have politicised everything to the point that some perceive that we have NDC and NPP judges. It is not the best. I am not a member of their party, but what has happened is unfortunate, fuelled by political impunity and political frustration.”
The MP called for an immediate end to the culture of political vigilantism. He urged the youth to stop taking the law into their own hands and disrupting public offices based on rhetoric or promises made during their time in opposition.
He asserted that the incident reveals the NDC’s deception in promising jobs, particularly through the 24-hour economy and the one-job-three-shifts system, to secure power.
