The Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has accused members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of issuing death threats and attempting to disrupt an opposition outreach to cocoa farmers in the Ashanti Region.
His allegation comes after a standoff in Bonkrom, Ahafo Ano North Constituency, where events organised by the Minority Caucus coincided with a meeting by local NDC supporters over a controversial cut in cocoa producer prices.
Speaking at Manso Adubia on Day 3 of the Minority’s tour of cocoa-growing areas, Annoh-Dompreh said the threats had escalated beyond political rivalry.
“They have started sending us messages. They say if we don’t stop what we are doing, they will kill us… But we will not stop today or tomorrow,” he said.
“When the NDC come to you, hoot at them. Tell them to go and tell Mahama that he should use the monies he used to buy planes to pay cocoa farmers.”
A standoff occurred between NDC supporters and farmers when the former set up tents to draw crowds away from a minority engagement.
Security intervened to prevent clashes. The chief criticised the NDC’s conduct, emphasising respect for local authority and due process.
