MP Jerry Shaib advises students to use mobile phones responsibly, warning against inappropriate content and unhealthy relationships

Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe Constituency, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has advised students from Jukwa Senior High Technical School to stay focused and avoid behaviours that could lead to trouble. He made this call when the 58 Government students visited Parliament, led by their teacher, Francis Arthur.

Addressing the students, Hon. Shaib emphasised the importance of discipline and respect, saying that these values would help them succeed. “You find them as members of parliament because they did their best in their respective constituencies and in their other life before coming here,” he said, citing his own experience as a former MD of Exim Bank and municipal chief executive.

The MP expressed concern about the misuse of mobile phones, saying that students should use them for educational purposes rather than watching inappropriate content or engaging in unhealthy relationships.

“Most of you have mobile phones, but you’re not using them for the right stuff,” he said, warning against behaviours that could lead to teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, and other issues. He urged girls to prioritise their health and well-being, saying, “Girls should avoid teenage pregnancy… keep yourselves clean, and don’t let anybody violate your body.”

Hon. Shaib encouraged the students to strive for excellence, saying that they could become leaders like the Speaker of Parliament or majority/minority leaders. “Let it be said that the one who came here sometime ago to visit parliament is now the speaker of parliament… or the majority leader, and the other is the minority leader,” he said, urging them to engage in proper behaviour.

The MP assured the students of their support, saying that if they faced any problems, they could reach out to their teachers, their MP or their parents/teachers. “If anybody tries something and you think it is funny and you know it is funny, report to your teacher… this your MP is an action man,” he said, concluding by wishing them well and urging them to stay focused.
