Hon. Fred Kyei Asamoah, Member of Parliament for Offinso North, has underscored the critical need for TB prevention and testing among colleagues, citing Ghana’s high infection rate.

Speaking in support of a statement on TB, Hon. Asamoah warned that the airborne nature of the disease puts everyone at risk, especially in enclosed spaces like Parliament.

He advised colleagues to prioritise testing, noting that latent TB infections are common among Ghanaians and can become active with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV, diabetes, or smokers.

Hon. Asamoah highlighted the serious risk of pericardial effusion, a cardiac condition often linked to TB, which can be challenging to treat and may require surgery.

The MP stressed that prevention is key, emphasising hygiene practices like avoiding exposure to coughed-on food and surfaces and ensuring prompt treatment if infected. He commended the statement maker, describing TB as a “silent killer” that requires urgent attention.

Honourable Asamoah urged colleagues to take proactive steps to protect their health, encouraging testing and completion of treatment if necessary.
