According to a statement issued by the ministry on March 24, 2026, and signed by the minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, this process aligns with Regulation 258 of the Minerals and Mining (Licensing) Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2176).

The designated mining area, as specified in the attached annex, is available for application through a competitive tender process.

“The tender is in accordance with Regulation 258 of the Minerals and Mining (Licensing) Regulations, 2012, LI 2176. The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources has decided to designate the areas as per the geographical co-ordinates attached hereto as Annexure A as areas for application by tender for mining lease (the Damang Mining Lease),” the statement said.

The statement added that the invitation follows an earlier notice published on both the ministry’s and the minerals commission’s websites under reference number MLNR/03/2026/01 on March 24, 2026.

It explained that the government is seeking a strategic investor with the requisite financial strength and technical expertise to take over the lease and ensure efficient operations of the Damang Mine.

The Ministry noted that the selected investor will operate the mine under terms that will see the asset ultimately revert to state ownership.

Additionally, all bids will be evaluated strictly based on pre-determined criteria contained in Annexure B of the tender document, while the submission and processing of applications will comply with Regulation 260 of L.I. 2176.

Interested bidders are required to submit one original copy and three additional copies of their tender documents to the Minerals Commission at Minerals House, No. 12 Switchback Road, Residential Area, Cantonments, Accra. The deadline for submission has been set for 4:00 p.m. on March 31, 2026.

All submitted tenders will remain valid for a period of seven days after the closing date. It also noted that a register of prospective bidders who have purchased the tender documents will be available for inspection at the same address.

Late submissions will not be considered and will be returned unopened.

Tenders will be opened at the Minerals Commission office at 4:00 p.m. on the closing date in the presence of representatives of bidding entities who choose to attend.
