The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has stated that the upcoming takeover of the Damang Mine will not result in any job losses, as officials move to secure a smooth transition.
He gave the assurance on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, during a working visit to the mine.
He led Parliament’s Select Committee on Lands and Natural Resources to review preparations ahead of the takeover.
The minister indicated that all existing contracts will be honoured, and no staff will be displaced during the change of ownership.
He said no unrest among workers is expected because measures have been put in place to maintain stability.
The current lease held by Gold Fields is set to expire on April 18.
“This assurance is coming from President John Dramani Mahama. His focus is on the people who work here. Those who have families need to be protected. So, I am here with MPs who will work on this same mine in terms of future lease to make sure that there is an orderly transition, to make sure that the operation is not interrupted, and to guarantee the safety of the miners and also guarantee the contract of those who are already here,” the lands minister said.
Gold Fields has worked with the government of Ghana and the transition team to prepare the Damang mine for ownership transfer, focusing on sustained operations, employment, and economic contributions.
