The Jomoro Municipal Assembly, led by Chief Executive Benedict Boadi, along with the people of Jomoro in the Western Region, have extended their heartfelt commendations to Dorcas Affo-Toffey, Member of Parliament for Jomoro and Deputy Minister for Transport, and retired General Augustine Blay, former Chief of Defence Staff, for their unwavering dedication and visionary leadership in successfully establishing the inaugural public tertiary institution in the Jomoro Municipality.
They acknowledged that such a significant accomplishment stems from tireless efforts, commitment, and a profound love for the nation, rather than mere happenstance.
Municipal Chief Executive Benedict Boadi, in a press release, stated that “The journey toward the realisation of this historic milestone dates back to the year 2015, when General Augustine Blay (Rtd), during the first administration of President John Dramani Mahama, made efforts aimed at securing a public tertiary institution for Jomoro.” Unfortunately, the change of government in 2016 resulted in a halt to the process, thereby stalling the progress made at the time.
According to him, “General Blay went on with the effort to make the project a reality even with the NPP being in power, but all effort achieved no result.”
“Following the return of the NDC to power in 2024, renewed momentum was injected into the realisation of the project through a strategic and collaborative effort led by General Augustine Blay and Hon. Dorcas Afo Toffey. This followed a detailed briefing by General Blay to the Hon. MP on the steps he had taken in previous years toward making the project a reality, triggering the Hon. Dorcas Toffey to back the effort with her portfolio in government.”
He added that ‘Their joint commitment culminated in a renewed drive last year, during which a compelling and practical case was presented for the establishment of the institution.’ Central to this proposal was the utilisation of General Blay’s former school facility located at Ezilinbo, which already possessed essential infrastructure, thereby significantly reducing the financial burden that would have been incurred if the government were to commence construction from scratch.'”
He went on in stating that “my outfit was duly informed and fully aware of the sustained efforts undertaken by both General Augustine Blay (Rtd) and Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey. However, the office deliberately refrained from making any premature public announcement until the project had reached a tangible and realisable stage. ”.
“The Office of the MCE is also pleased to announce to the good people of Jomoro that, through the additional efforts of Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey, a new contractor, has been engaged to address the network challenges in Jaway and Mpaesem through the installation of new communication poles. ”.
