The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued an urgent public health alert following the discovery of falsified VISITECT CD4 Advanced Disease HIV test kits in circulation.
The authority has cautioned that the use of these counterfeit products could severely compromise patient care and safety.
According to the FDA statement, these fraudulent kits are likely to produce inaccurate results, which may lead to misdiagnosis, delayed treatment, and serious health complications, particularly for vulnerable patients who require timely medical intervention.
The falsified products are identified by lot number 0001586 and erroneously list Omega Diagnostics Limited of the United Kingdom as the manufacturer.
The genuine VISITECT CD4 Advanced Disease test kits are manufactured by AccuBio Limited, also based in the UK, under lot number 0002172.
Beyond the differing lot numbers and manufacturers, there are distinct discrepancies in the product specifications that distinguish the authentic kits from the counterfeits.
Temporal data further highlights the illegitimacy of the fraudulent items.
Authentic kits carry a manufacturing date of July 2025 and are set to expire in November 2026.
However, the counterfeit versions claim a manufacturing date of August 2024 with an expiry date of January 2027.
