President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in France today, Monday, April 6, 2026, for a high-profile official visit following an invitation from President Emmanuel Macron.

The diplomatic mission, which begins in Lyon, underscores Ghana’s growing influence in international health policy and bilateral relations within the European Union.

The primary focus of the visit is the 2026 One Health Summit. President Mahama, recognised as the architect of the Accra Reset Initiative, is set to co-chair the summit’s high-level segment alongside President Macron.

This gathering brings together a global assembly of heads of state, health ministers, and scientific experts to tackle the interconnected challenges of global health systems, sustainable food production, and pandemic preparedness.

During the summit, the president is scheduled to deliver two major keynote addresses.

His first speech will contribute to discussions on a new global health architecture, a session co-led by the French president and the director-general of the World Health Organisation, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The forum is expected to culminate in the endorsement of a political declaration aimed at solidifying international cooperation against future health crises.

In a second address to heads of state and government, President Mahama will outline Ghana’s specific strategic commitments to global health security.

His contributions are expected to highlight the importance of equitable health frameworks for developing nations.

The diplomatic itinerary shifts to Paris on Wednesday, 8 April, for a series of bilateral engagements.

Before meeting his French counterpart, President Mahama will be received by Gérard Larcher, the president of the French Senate, at the Senate House.

The visit will conclude with a private meeting at the Élysée Palace. Discussions between President Mahama and President Macron are expected to span a wide range of mutual interests, including regional security, trade, and education.
