The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has issued a public notice to Ghanaian citizens planning travel to Senegal, clarifying the current health protocols and entry requirements for the West African nation.
In a statement released on Tuesday, 7th April 2026, the ministry sought to address potential confusion regarding mandatory vaccinations for travellers.
Following official communication from the Senegalese Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad in Dakar, the Ghanaian authorities confirmed that while several vaccinations are highly recommended, they are not a legal prerequisite for entry.
The Senegalese health authorities have identified a suite of vaccinations—including Yellow Fever, DPT (Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Tetanus), Measles, and Hepatitis A and B—as being advisable for foreigners.
However, the ministry emphasised that these are suggested “solely for the purpose of protecting the health and safety of travellers.”
“The presentation of a vaccination certificate for these diseases is not mandatory for entry into Senegalese territory.”
Despite the lack of a mandatory requirement, the Ministry is urging all Ghanaians heading to Senegal to remain vigilant about their personal wellbeing. Travellers are encouraged to review these guidelines and ensure they are medically prepared before departure.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to keeping the public informed of shifting entry requirements and encouraged all travellers to remain compliant with the health standards of their destination countries to ensure a smooth journey.
