A 50-year-old fisherman has tragically lost his life in the Afram River at Kotoso in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region.
The incident occurred when the fisherman, identified as Pafio Avbobeka, attempted to retrieve a drifting canoe.
According to eyewitness accounts shared with the media by Emmanuel Agyenfrah, Pafio had gone fishing with his brother on Monday night (April, 6, 2026) when a heavy storm forced them to suspend their activities and take shelter along the riverbank.
During their brief respite, strong winds swept their canoe away, prompting Pafio to reportedly jump into the river to retrieve it, but he did not resurface.
The canoe was found at the far end of the river the following morning, but Pafio remained missing until his body was recovered after hours of search efforts.
