Residents of Asylum Down were met with a sorrowful scene early Wednesday morning following the discovery of a lifeless body in a major drainage channel.
The grim find, located in the waterway that feeds into the Odaw River opposite the Iran Clinic, drew a crowd of concerned onlookers as emergency services worked to secure the area.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) was alerted to the situation at 06:18 hours, according to official reports from the Fire Master Control.
Demonstrating a rapid emergency response, a specialised rescue crew from the Circle Fire Station was dispatched within sixty seconds of receiving the distress call.
Upon arriving at the scene at 06:25 hours, the rescue team, under the command of Assistant Divisional Officer Grade I Richard Helegbe, commenced the difficult task of extracting the individual from the concrete drain.
The crew worked efficiently to retrieve the body of the deceased, who has been described as an unidentified male appearing to be in his late twenties.
While the circumstances surrounding the man’s death remain unclear, the recovery operation was completed shortly after arrival.
The GNFS subsequently handed the remains over to the Ghana Police Service, who transported the body for preservation.
An investigation has been launched to determine the man’s identity and the events leading up to the tragic incident.
