The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has announced plans to conduct a targeted enforcement operation across the Greater Accra Region this week.
According to a media notice issued on April 14, 2026, the primary objectives of the exercise are to rescue vulnerable individuals and address the ongoing challenges of irregular migration.
The service indicated that the operation will involve a street sweep at various selected locations.
While the specific sites remain undisclosed to protect “operational integrity and the safety of vulnerable populations”, the GIS confirmed that the intervention is designed to tackle several critical issues.
The operation will focus specifically on “rescuing vulnerable populations, including children and distressed individuals, from exploitative begging activities” while simultaneously seeking to “apprehend unregistered immigrants to ensure compliance with Ghana’s immigration laws.”
This initiative builds upon feedback gathered from previous exercises and aligns with the broader mandate of the GIS to protect public welfare and enforce national immigration regulations.
In a statement signed by Maud Anima Quainoo, the Deputy Commissioner of Immigration at the Public Affairs Department, the Service reaffirmed its dedication to social stability.
“This operation is an effort to highlight the service’s commitment to protecting vulnerable Ghanaians, combating human trafficking, and maintaining orderly public spaces,” the statement noted.
