HRH Tongraan Kugbilsong Nanlebegtang, the Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, has delivered a definitive declaration of political neutrality, asserting that his commitment to communal development supersedes all partisan interests.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Tongraan addressed his political history with transparency.
Whilst acknowledging his former membership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he clarified that his ascension to the throne necessitates a position of absolute neutrality.
He emphasised that his support is reserved for whichever administration prioritises the advancement of the Talensi district, regardless of their political colours.
The Paramount Chief’s rhetoric served as a strategic appeal for national unity, framing traditional authority as a fundamental partner in progress rather than a partisan instrument.
He observed that persistent friction between rival political factions frequently obstructs local growth, and he urged members of both the NPP and NDC to harmonise their efforts for the benefit of the nation.
In response, Mr Asiedu Nketiah expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and the Chief’s counsel, reaffirming the NDC’s pledge to collaborate with traditional rulers to ensure development initiatives effectively reach the grassroots.
The encounter, part of the NDC’s regional “thank you” tour, concluded with a mutual emphasis on respect between the political establishment and cultural custodians.
Furthering the discussion on local progress, the District Chief Executive for the Talensi Constituency, John Nabwonya Millim, also took the opportunity to outline the various developmental projects successfully implemented during his first year in office.
