As thousands of final-year junior high school students across the country sit for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) this week, the Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has issued a rallying call for academic excellence and integrity.
In a formal statement released from Jubilee House on Monday, the Vice President extended her heartfelt support to the candidates, acknowledging the significant milestone this examination represents in their educational journey.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang expressed her firm belief in the capabilities of the students, noting that their success would be a natural byproduct of the commitment they have shown over the last three years.
“The Vice President is confident that all candidates will give off their very best after years of effort, discipline and preparation,” the statement noted.
This message of reassurance comes at a critical time when examination anxiety often peaks among young learners.

To counter this, she urged the candidates to “approach the examination with confidence, honesty and determination.”
She also took the opportunity to recognise the broader support system that facilitates the national exercise.
She offered commendations to the Ghana Education Service (GES), as well as the teachers and parents whose “dedicated efforts” have been instrumental in preparing the candidates for the rigours of the week ahead.
However, the Vice President also underscored the necessity of maintaining the sanctity of the examination process.
Addressing those tasked with administering the papers, she reminded supervisors, invigilators, and school authorities of their duty to uphold “the highest standards of fairness and transparency.”
The statement, signed by Press Secretary Ama Pratt, emphasised that such vigilance is vital to ensure a “credible process and outcome” for the nation.
