Asante Akyem North MP detained at Schiphol Airport

The Parliament of Ghana has officially confirmed that it is investigating the detention of the Honourable Member for the Asante Akyem North constituency, Mr Kwame Ohene Frimpong, in the Netherlands.

According to a statement released by the Clerk to Parliament, Mr Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the MP was intercepted by authorities at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.

While the specific grounds for the detention have not yet been made public, the legislative body has indicated that it is treating the matter with high priority.

The Right Honourable Speaker, Alban Bagbin, alongside the leadership of the House, is reportedly in direct communication with Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague to ascertain the full details of the incident.

The mission is currently working to provide consular assistance and clarify the legal circumstances surrounding the Member of Parliament’s hold-up at the international transit hub.

Parliament has assured the public that further updates will be provided as more information is received from the Dutch authorities and the Ghanaian foreign mission.

For now, the leadership has called for patience while the necessary diplomatic and legal channels are exhausted to resolve the situation.
