A heated dispute between two brothers escalated into a horrific physical confrontation, resulting in one man allegedly hacking off his sibling’s hand.
The incident occurred at Agona Abodom in the Central Region.
Reporting on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Nana Kojo Asare stated that the disagreement began as a verbal spat over a domestic matter.
According to reports, the elder brother, David Eduful Botchway, confronted his junior sibling, Baisie, over a decision to sell a plot of land left to them by their late mother.
The sale was allegedly attempted without informing other family members.
The situation rapidly spiralled out of control.
Neighbours reported hearing a cacophony of shouting, followed by desperate screams for help.
In a fit of rage, the suspect reportedly brandished a sharpened cutlass and turned it upon his own flesh and blood.
The victim sustained catastrophic injuries, with the blade nearly severing his hand entirely at the wrist.
Passers-by and horrified residents rushed to the scene to find the victim bleeding profusely.
The victim was immediately rushed to the Agona Swedru Government Hospital. Surgeons there have been working tirelessly to stabilise his condition and assess whether reconstructive surgery is possible.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Agona Abodom community. Officers from the local police division arrived shortly after the assault and took the suspect into custody without further incident.
The weapon used in the attack has been recovered as evidence.
While the suspect remains in police cells, investigators are conducting interviews with eyewitnesses to determine the exact sequence of events.
The police have reassured the public that the perpetrator will face the full rigour of the law as they continue their enquiries into the circumstances of this tragedy.
