MOCDTI rubbishes claims Hon. Sam George has “blown” public funds, clarifies budget procedures

May 18, 2026

The Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations (MOCDTI) has strongly refuted allegations circulating on social media that the sector Minister, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has misapplied public funds.

In an official statement released by the PR Directorate on Monday, 18 May 2026, the Ministry clarified that the viral document being cited as evidence of financial misconduct is merely an extract of an official submission sent to the Ministry of Finance.

The submission is a standard administrative request seeking Commitment Authorisation for planned projects, operational activities, and key programme interventions for the 2026 fiscal year.

According to the Ministry, these projects are strictly tied to budgetary allocations that have already been duly debated and approved by Parliament.

Setting the record straight on the status of the funds, the Ministry emphasised that the document represents a preliminary request rather than an actual expenditure.

The statement noted that it is important to emphasize that the said Commitment Authorisation request is yet to receive approval from the Ministry of Finance.

Consequently, no funds have been released, disbursed or expended in relation to the items referenced in the circulating document.

The Ministry expressed disappointment over how the administrative document was framed on social media, accusing detractors of stripping the file of necessary institutional context to manufacture a scandal.

The Ministry therefore describes the claims suggesting that public funds have already been squandered as inaccurate, misleading and devoid of context and must be treated with the contempt it deserves.

Reassuring the public of its commitment to fiscal discipline, the MOCDTI reiterated that its financial operations are strictly guided by national laws and regulatory frameworks.

The state agency maintained that it remains committed to transparency, accountability and strict adherence to all public financial management regulations in the execution of its mandate.
