The long-awaited deployment of 100 new Isuzu Geyushi buses to Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) begins this Friday, marking a significant step towards revitalising Ghana’s public transport system.
Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang will officially inaugurate the 29-seater vehicles at the MMTL headquarters in Accra, alongside Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe and Deputy Minister Dorcas Affo-Toffey.
Imported from Egypt under an arrangement spearheaded by Deputy Minister Madam Affo-Toffey, these vehicles represent the first phase of a broader government strategy to procure 300 buses for both urban and rural routes.
The new fleet is expected to drastically reduce overcrowding, delays, and vehicle shortages for thousands of commuters.
While the initiative will immediately ease transport challenges on major corridors in the Ashanti, Central, Western, and Eastern regions, it will particularly benefit heavily congested routes across Accra, Tema, Kumasi, and surrounding districts like Kasoa, Pokuase, and Madina.
