The High Court in Accra has granted bail to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, following his initial remand on charges of false publication.

During the hearing, the applicant’s legal team—led by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame and moved by former Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah—requested bail pending trial.

The prosecution, represented by Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai, raised no objections to the application.

Consequently, the court granted Baffoe bail set at GH¢100,000 with two sureties. Under the terms of his release, he must report to the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) fortnightly, surrender his travel documents, and obtain express permission from the Registrar before travelling abroad.

Baffoe’s initial remand had drawn significant criticism from parts of the NPP and legal commentators, who claimed it infringed upon his constitutional rights.

Defending the original decision, the presiding judge explained that the remand was deemed necessary due to concerns that the accused might commit further offences if immediately released.
