The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has stated that staff of the parliamentary service deserve a plaque of honour for their dedication and commitment to the work of Parliament.
He noted that the country is living in an era of rapid transformation and therefore urged staff to remain professional, disciplined and committed to strengthening the institution of Parliament.
The Speaker made these remarks during the official launch of Human Resource Week 2026, held under the theme “Empower People to Lead Change”.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by the second deputy speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, Speaker Bagbin encouraged staff to use the celebration as a period of reflection on their career paths and personal growth within the Parliamentary Service.
He stressed that every great institution across the world is recognised not merely for its physical structures or attractions but for the quality, character and commitment of its workforce.
He therefore urged staff to continue serving Parliament with dignity, professionalism and pride.
The Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, whose speech was read on his behalf by the Deputy Clerk in charge of Legislative Management Services, Mr Camillo Pwamang, acknowledged that empowering people requires visionary leadership capable of nurturing talent, encouraging innovation and creating opportunities for growth. He called for renewed collective commitment towards institutional development.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Human Resource Sub-Committee of the Parliamentary Service Board, Angela Oforiwaa Olorwu-Tay, together with Deputy Clerk for Corporate and Financial Management Services, Dr Gloria Akua Sarku-Kumawu, and Majority Chief Whip, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, speaking on behalf of Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, commended the Human Resource Department for organising the programme.
They emphasised that institutions rise or decline largely based on how well their people are empowered, adding that the Human Resources Department carries a crucial responsibility in building and sustaining a professional workforce capable of advancing Parliament’s constitutional mandate.
