A 50-year-old Abdallah Mohammed, the man who defiled, impregnated and aborted the pregnancy of the 14year old girl at Nyanshegu a suburb of Tamale has been found guilty and sentenced to 15years in prison with hard labour.
The Tamale High Court, presided over by His Lordship Justice Charles Kwesi Acheampong, sentenced Abdallah Mohammed to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour after finding him guilty of all charges leveled against him.
One of the key issues during the trial was the age of the victim. While the prosecution maintained that the girl was 14 years old, the convict argued that she was 18, claiming that her physical appearance and conversations with him suggested she was an adult.
The defence also challenged a birth certificate presented by the prosecution, producing a report from the Births and Deaths Registry indicating that the document could not be traced in its records.
Despite the objections raised by the defence, the court relied on the testimonies of the victim and her guardian, together with evidence from the earlier Circuit Court proceedings, and concluded that the prosecution had sufficiently established beyond reasonable doubt that the victim was 14 years old.
Abdallah Mohammed was therefore found guilty of defilement and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour.
