Political analyst Samuel Boateng has called on President John Dramani Mahama to immediately sack all government appointees who accepted honors at a controversial event organized by Big Events Ghana.
Reacting to the development, Boateng opined that it was simply not enough for the president to express concern over public officials participating in private, unverified award schemes.
Instead, he insisted that those who attended and accepted accolades at the ceremony should be dismissed with immediate effect.
Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Boateng warned that such ceremonies risk undermining the integrity of the public service.
His comments follow a directive issued by President Mahama explicitly barring all Ministers of State, Chief Executive Officers of state institutions, and political appointees from attending, endorsing, sponsoring, or accepting awards from private organizations unless expressly authorized by the presidency.
The directive instead instructed officials to focus entirely on their mandates and the delivery of tangible results.
However, Mr. Boateng argued that a mere statement from the presidency falls short of the necessary accountability.
“The English is enough. We need action. The decision by these appointees to accept the honors defeats or undermines the President’s Code of Conduct for appointees. All the appointees who accepted the honors breached the President’s Code of Conduct and must be fired immediately. Those who received the awards don’t deserve to continue holding their positions. The majority of them are even not performing. A lot of them are just occupying positions without any tangible outcomes from their work and must be shown the exit. President Mahama must be bold and crack the whip,” he stated.
Speaking to show host Kwabena Agyapong, Boateng maintained that private individuals should not be organizing schemes to award government officials.
He emphasised that the Ghanaian voters who elected President Mahama are the best judges to evaluate the performance of the government and its appointees, rather than private entities using unverifiable metrics.
“Ghanaians will commend you when you perform well. When Ghanaians get any impact from your leadership, they will reward you. You don’t need to chase after awards. I repeat, all those who received an award must be fired immediately. Nobody should be spared. They don’t deserve to continue holding their positions. What were they awarded for? None of them is above the President. It was the President we voted for and not his appointees, so if there is anyone who has underperformed, they have to be sacked. The letter he issued is a perfect example for him to reshuffle. If he is unable to take drastic action, Ghanaians would be disappointed in him because the situation has contradicted his code of conduct.”
Samuel Boateng stated that the era where politicians take Ghanaians for granted is over, noting that citizens now demand far better from their leaders.
