The Ghana Education Service (GES) has launched an investigation following the arrest of a teacher from Nyinahini Catholic Senior High School who was filmed physically assaulting a female student on campus.
The viral video depicts the teacher repeatedly punching the student and throwing her to the ground.
Despite onlookers pleading with him to stop and reminding him of the student’s gender, the visibly angry teacher replied, “Is she aware she is a lady?”
Daniel Fenyi, the Public Relations Officer for the GES, confirmed the arrest in a social media post on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
“The Nyinahini Catholic SHS teacher seen in the viral video fighting a female student arrested! Regional education directorate is investigating the matter. Full report to be submitted to HQ,” Fenyi wrote.
While public demands for student safety and accountability intensify, neither school authorities nor the GES have disclosed what triggered the confrontation.
The regional education directorate’s upcoming report to headquarters will determine the subsequent disciplinary and legal actions.
