NDC, J.J. Rawlings Foundation partner to honour former President’s 79th birthday

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), in partnership with the J.J. Rawlings Foundation, has announced a series of commemorative events to celebrate the 79th birthday of the party’s late founder, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings.

According to an official statement signed by the NDC’s Deputy National Communication Officer, Godwin Ako Gunn, the celebrations will take place on Monday, June 22, 2026, under the theme, “From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy.”

The memorial activities will commence at 9:00 AM with a ceremony officially naming the NDC party headquarters after the former president.

The event will also feature the unveiling of a commemorative bust.

“The event will be addressed by the leader of the party, President John Dramani Mahama and other leading members of the party,” the statement noted.

Later in the afternoon, the venue will shift to the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences auditorium near the CSIR in Accra for a public lecture and exhibition starting at 4:00 PM.

Notable Ghanaian academic and lawyer, Tsatsu Tsikata, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.

Other high-profile speakers slated for the event include: Dr. Akwasi Opong Fosu, former Minister for Local Government and current Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre and Kofi Totobi Quakyi, former Minister for Information and National Security.

The leadership of the NDC has extended an open invitation to cadres, party supporters, and the general public, urging them “to participate in the two events to celebrate Flt Lt Rawlings’ birthday and honour his life and legacy.”
