Police in the Upper East Region have arrested four suspects, including a juvenile, following the murder of a married couple in Kusanaba, a suburb of the Zebilla District.
The suspects—Safianu Salam, Awal Salam, Jawal Salam, and a minor whose identity is being withheld—were apprehended at a hideout in Kugre, near Garu, on June 19, 2026.
According to preliminary police investigations, the victims, 45-year-old Apam Azubilla and his 35-year-old wife, Apam Anomsigna, were inside their home on June 10, 2026, when four armed men forced their way in and opened fire.
Hearing his brother’s cries for help, Ayubugre Apam rushed to the scene, where he discovered the couple lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
The victims were immediately rushed to the Zegoyire Health Centre, where Anomsigna was pronounced dead on arrival.
Azubilla was subsequently referred to the Zebilla District Hospital but succumbed to his injuries before arrival.
A forensic examination of the bodies confirmed multiple gunshot wounds. Family members of the deceased retrieved three spent AK-47 ammunition shells from the scene and handed them over to investigators.
The four suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, and they are expected to be arraigned before court soon.
