The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has revealed that the Sentuo Oil Refinery is set to scale up its processing capabilities to 100,000 barrels daily once its current expansion works are finalised.
He shared this update during the official ground-breaking ceremony for Phase II of the Sentuo Oil Refinery on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
The Minister explained that the upgrade represents a significant step forward in the nation’s push to solidify energy security, generate employment, and enhance the worth of its domestic natural resources.
At present, the facility processes 40,000 barrels each day, a figure that will more than double upon full completion of the development.
“ We are going to take the Sentuo Refinery from a refinery capacity of 40,000 barrels per day to 100,000 barrels per day upon completion,” he said.
Additionally, the expansion is slated to considerably bump up headcount at the site, with personnel figures projected to climb from approximately 800 up to around 1,500 staff members.
The Minister emphasised that the initiative would directly elevate local livelihoods whilst simultaneously supporting wider economic steadiness.
“We are anchoring energy security, we are adding value to our own resources, but more importantly, we are creating jobs. From my discussion with the chairman, the employment level will move from about 700 or 800 to 1,500 upon completion of this refinery,” he stated.
