A prompt emergency response on Friday, 26 June 2026, saved the life of a motorist trapped following a severe collision at Mile 44 on the Accra–Kumasi Highway.
The Suhum Municipal Fire Station dispatched a six-member rescue crew to the scene immediately after receiving the alert.
Upon arrival, the firefighters deployed specialised hydraulic extrication equipment to free one casualty who had become heavily pinned inside the wreckage.
The incident involved a MAN diesel trailer and a Toyota Hiace minibus. According to preliminary investigations by emergency officials, the driver of the Toyota Hiace attempted to overtake a slow-moving vehicle, losing control and crashing into the larger vehicle.
The impact left the Toyota Hiace extensively damaged, whilst the trailer sustained only minor damage to its rear.
The rescued victim was immediately transferred by emergency personnel to the Suhum Government Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Local authorities have cleared the wreckage to ensure the free flow of traffic on the busy highway, whilst investigations into the precise circumstances of the crash continue.
